China launches "Thousands of Protozoan Genome Project"

Miao Wei said that the “10,000 species of protozoan genome project” was jointly initiated by the Institute of Aquatic Sciences of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Tibet University, Henan Agricultural University, Lanzhou Veterinary Research Institute of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Beijing Institute of Genomics of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Huazhong University of Science and Technology. From 2020 to 2022, they will rely on the germplasm resources of more than 3,000 strains of eukaryotic algae and protozoa deposited by various sponsors to complete the genome sequencing of about 10,000 protozoa through continuous sample collection and metagenomic data mining.
